Ruurd raakte op het criminele pad.
Hij pleegde een overval op juwelier Hendrik Alles van Wielen aan de Dubbelstraat in Balk.
Toen huizing in Balk gemerkt nummer 152.
Hij vermoordde ,diens vrouw , Antje van Wielen-Lolkes Postma met 16 messteken,waarvan 1 in de halsstreek dodelijk was.Dat was Sinterklaasavond 1845.
Teatske Lolkes Postma een nicht van Antje ontdekt het ontzielde lichaam in de winkel.
Toen hij een deel van de buit in Groningen bij juwelier wed mej. Van Slogteren te gelde wou maken is hij gearresteerd.

Tevens brak hij in bij Jan Sijmens de Boer te Sondel ,toen hij bij zijn broer Stein verbleef.Hij stal toen f 500,= welke verbrastte te Amsterdam.In Amsterdam kocht hij Eltje Kruiger vrij bij een pooier en ging hiemee samenwonen te Groningen.

Ruurd Passchier van Dijk is de laatste (16 oktober 1846) die in Leeuwarden is opgehangen.
Op het schavot sprak hij de woorden:

""O,menschen Leert van mij.Laat het kwade en doet het goede.
In mij ziet gij wat er van zonde komt.Ik sterf,omdat ik het rechtvaardig verdiend heb.
Maar God zegt nog in Zijn Woord:""roept Mij aan in den dag der benauwdheid en Ik zal u uithelpen.""
Ja,ik geloof in Jezus Christus,mijnigen eenigen Middelaar,door wien ik tot den Vader ga En nu zeg ik:Vader in Uwe handen beveel ik mijnen geest Amen ""

Dat hij de menigte mocht toespreken was heel bijzonder.Dat werd bij hoge uitzondering toegestaan.

Stump Jessie R was born June 10, 1856 in Elkhart County, Ind., and died March 22, 1929 at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 10 days. Her father and mother, Reuben J. and Margaret Symminsma Smith, came to this country from Holland in 1853 with a small colony of Mennonite people, of whom he was the pastor. She was one of six children, of whom two, Obed and Hannah, survive; and three, Martha, John, and Jacob, preceded her in death. On Dec. 16, 1883 she married Daniel D. Stump. They were the parents of 3 sons, Charles D., Walter D., and Albert, all of whom survive. They established their first home in Noble County immediately after their marriage on the farm on which they lived until her husband’s death on Feb. 26 of this year. She was a member of the Mennonite Church. + 3-?-1929

Stump Daniel D, 69, father of the Hon. Albert Stump of Indianapolis, Democratic candidate for U. S. Senator at the last general election, died last week at the family home in Washington Twp, five miles west of Wolf Lake. He served as county commissioner eight years. He was a member of the Masonic order and was active in various civic enterprises. He was born Nov. 16, 1859, the son of Noah and Mariah Stump, and died Feb. 26, 1929 at the age of 69 years, 3 months and I days. He married Jessie R. Smith Dec. 16, 1883. A sister Anne and a brother Levi preceded him in death. Surviving besides the widow are three sons: Albert of Indianapolis, Walter of Auburn and Charles at home; six brothers, Adam, John, Frank, Noah and George, all of Washington Twp, and James Stump of Ligonier; and 3 sisters, Susan, Mary and Fanny. The funeral was last Friday. Burial, Salem Cemetery. ~ 3-7-1929 + 3-?-1929

Stump Albert, 70, a noted Indianapolis attorney and expert in medical law, and a former Democratic nominee for the United States Senate, died Aug. 3, 1958 in Robert Long Hospital after suffering a stroke. A native of Noble County, he was a graduate of Indiana University and the University of Chicago Law School. Survivors include the widow, Susan; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Matchell of Chicago; and 2 sons, Robert of Madison, Wis., and Dr. Thomas A. of Indianapolis. + 8-?-1958
